Fathers Day

PDF Print E-mail

Sunday was Fathers Day, and what is the best you can do for a South African daddy? That’s right! Braai and Beer! Okes don’t wanna dress up and go to an expensive restaurant to chow, just give them a fire, some good company and enough beer and that sorts them out!

My very wise sister in law, Cathy invited us to their farm for a champagne breakfast braai on Sunday and what an awesome day it was! We arrived at about 10.30 to find the fire already lit and burning merrily, the chairs all placed around the braai area and the food on a suitable table waiting to be cooked. My cousin Grant eventually managed to drag his enire brood out of  bed and they arrived at about 11.30. Cathy and I cooked pork sausages, bacon, fried tomato, fried eggs to order, baked beans, potatoes and salad and boy did we feast! (of course the guys drank beer NOT champagne and orange juice, that being for sissies!)

Breakfast took a couple of hours and afterwards we trekked up the mountain in my boet’s Landie to enjoy sundowners on the deck he has built overlooking the farm and neighbouring game farm. It was spectacular and a fitting end to a lovely day or so we thought! We were all enjoying ourselves so much, that when we got back down to the farm, we started the fire up again and braaied for supper! Who can top that?

2 braai's in one day and the men had nothing to do with it? Now that's what I call well organised.
